Pop-Up Bio
My goal is to help you get through your Saturday with a smile. I like to talk about the songs, perhaps telling you something about a song that maybe you didn’t know. I enjoy letting you know who’s celebrating a birthday, as well as passing along tidbits to help you start your weekend off right. I also love joking around and hopefully getting you to laugh a few times while I’m on! I am having so much fun being “on the air” and I sincerely hope you’re having as much fun listening to me!
More About Rob:
I was born on April 4th at Hartford Hospital. I truly believe that I was destined to be a major lover of music because on the day I was born, the Beatles had the Top 5 singles in the country, which is the only time in the Rock era that it has happened! I think that’s why the Beatles are my favorite group!
I graduated from Bloomfield High School and have an Associates Degree from the University of Hartford. My hobbies, aren’t that unique. I am a HUGE fan of the Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Steelers. I have been a fan of both teams since 1969. When I was seven I was pushed by Carl Yastrzemski while I was at my first game at Fenway Park. My dad wrote a letter to their General Manager and he sent us back four free tickets and arranged for “Yaz” to shake my hand and apologize to me after the game! I attended a game in September of 2007 and hope to go to at least one game a year from now on. I’d love to sit in the “Monster Seats”, so if you have a couple of tickets you don’t want...
I also have a large collection of records and CD’s and spend a lot of time listening to music. I love searching for out of print stuff and am thrilled when I can track down that elusive CD or LP! I like everything from Harry Chapin to Frank Zappa! I also love movies…basically I love doing anything fun!
I have attended many concerts. The first concert I ever attended was Debby Boone! (Okay, I had a crush on her!). My second concert was Frank Zappa. Quite a difference, no? I have seen performers such as the Kinks, the Animals reunion tour, the Cars, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Ringo Starr and my all time favorite concert, Paul McCartney at the Hartford Civic Center!
I started working at DRC in 1980 while I was still in High School. My first job was mailing out the “Big D Dial-a-Hits” to contest winners. It was a non-paying position…at least, cash wise. I was paid in records! For a music geek, it was heaven! I mean, that’s what I would have spent my money on anyway! Eventually I was taught how to run a board and how to produce commercials. I was doing all of this while I was a senior in High School. I first wanted to work here when I was five years old and am still excited to be living a childhood dream!
I have worked every shift imaginable at DRC…and I have worked here three separate times during my career. First I was a part-timer here from 1980-1985. I was re-hired to work in production, run the AM board and to cart music for our new format (when we first started playing oldies) in 1986. That lasted until 1988.
I was hired for the third (and hopefully final!) time in 1994 and I have been here ever since. I was brought back first as a part-timer, then produced Jerry Kristafer’s morning show for three years. I have been the Production Director for the past ten years, and have had a part-time airshift here since 2004, not counting the ten straight Christmas Eve’s that I have worked.
My mother lives in Arizona with her husband and I have one brother. Tom works for Buckley Broadcasting too, as VP/Chief of Engineering in New York, and I have a niece and nephew I adore. I've lived just down the street from DRC with my dad my entire life. Sadly, my dad passed away in March of 2007. He was a great man and I miss him. With the help of my friends and everyone at DRC, who I consider my "second family" I'm adjusting to the loss. I'm working on home improvement projects and I hope to travel to England this year. I'll keep you posted on that!
